I started painting skulls several years ago. I’ve always loved animal skulls. It is fascinating how bones linger on. I find them to be a beautiful reminder of life…..as well as death. The intertwined and inevitable cycle of life. As I hold the bone in my hands I consider the life of the creature that once lived and breathed and at the same time I’m reminded of my own mortality and it prompts me to intensely appreciate being alive.
This is a skull I found several years ago. It has been weathered and shaped by time and elements. Now I have added a bit of myself to it through paint and imagination.
