“Keep in mind how fast things pass by and are gone — those that are now, and those to come. Existence flows past us like a river: the “what” is in constant flux, the “why” has a thousand variations. Nothing is stable, not even what’s right here. The infinity of past and future gapes before us — a chasm whose depths we cannot see. ” – Marcus Aurelius
The local garbage transfer station (county facility where people pay to dispose of garbage) is again raising prices. The facility is equipped with a few large dumpsters. The dumpsters are periodically hauled to the landfill over 40 miles away. Raising prices could result in more garbage being dumped in the country…which is already an issue.
More reason to avoid buying stuff that includes a small pile of throw-away packaging.
The packaging things are sold with is overboard. It’s extraordinary waste built into “normal” daily life.
My garbage is primarily store-bought food-related: cans, glass, and paper. There are no recycling facilities within 100 miles. 🙁
Overall Plan is limit crap brought home that will result in garbage. Not a simple task. Uphill battle all the way….especially where we live out in the boonies.
Building the straw bale house has generated four 40 gallon trash cans of construction trash.
Little bits and pieces of “waste” have been used in making brackets, vents and clips.
