Minimalist Reflections At Christmas

I’ve minimized my participation in Christmas.

I used to be way more “into” Christmas.  Oh my gosh.  At one time I had at least five trees.  Decorations for all of them.  Then I had the non-tree decorations….stand-alone stuff.   Enough twinkling lights to string them for miles.  Indoor stuff.  Outdoor stuff.  It took me several days to get it all set up.  I had to take down some of my “regular” decorations, just to make room for the holiday stuff.  It would be on display for about a month.  Then it was time to take it all down and store it for eleven months.

Today I have no decorations.  I may buy and/or make a few gifts for family.  Dave and I don’t exchange gifts.  We gather with family.  I write to some people to say hello and share a little about what is up.  I might listen to a few Christmas tunes.  The rest of my life is mostly just the same as it always is.  I like it though.  It’s elegant in that it’s simple and more peaceful.

It’s the right choice for me.  I don’t miss it.  I feel it’s in better alignment with my values.
