This is the first skull I painted. A whitetail buck deer skull I found beside a country road. Most likely it was hit and killed by a car.
I’ve always loved skulls and bones. All natural specimens, bits, and pieces. Rocks, shells, nests, twigs, seedpods leaves, and on and on. Endless layers of beauty exist in nature.
I was inspired to paint on this skull and it started something new for me. Using the nature I love as a canvas. Joining these remains to myself using paint applied from brushes held by my hands and moved by my soul.
I still have this little skull. I don’t think of it as my best work. But it was the beginning into this creative avenue. That makes it special to me.
